A BUMBER 11 students at Ermysted's Grammar School in Skipton are celebrating after receiving offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge universities this October.

They will be joined by two Ermysted’s students who left last year, making it an impressive crop of Oxbridge offer-holders for the school.

Should they be successful in their summer A-level exams, the students will be taking a wide variety of degree courses including Maths, English, Classics, PPE and Engineering. They include head boy, Benedict Curtis, who has been offered a place at Cambridge University to study English.

Tom Hodgson, Head of Year 13, said: "The students are delighted, and we are delighted for them. The application process to study at Oxford and Cambridge is arduous, with sometimes multiple interviews, so it’s taken a great deal of determination to receive these offers, as well as a considerable amount of work in their subjects.

"We are confident that they will meet the grade requirements and confident that they will succeed in their university studies. These students are a credit to themselves, their families, and all the teachers who have supported them throughout their school careers."

Mr Hodgson added: "The school’s recent Ofsted report described the Ermysted’s Sixth Form as ‘a special place’, and the achievements of these students demonstrate one of the reasons why Ofsted came to that judgement, though we are proud to support all of our Year 13 students as they move on to their futures, be that at another higher education institution, an apprenticeship, employment or a gap year."

In November, the school was rated 'good' by Ofsted, following its first inspection since 2008. It received an 'outstanding' rating in four of the five categories, including its sixth form provision.
