SETTLE District Young Farmers held its annual hedging and walling competition, successfully hosted by Coniston Cold YFC, with outdoor events staged courtesy of the Wellock family in Kirkby Malham and indoor classes taking place in the village hall. (Saturday, Feb 4)

There was a great turnout from all clubs involved, with The Fred Waddington Memorial Trophy for the most points overall on the day – and the bragging rights to go with it - awarded to Rathmell YFC, with Coniston Cold finishing runners-up, followed by Burton-in-Lonsdale in third place and Lawkland fourth.

In the outdoor section, Coniston Cold and Rathmell shared leading honours when tying with the most points, ahead of Burton-in-Lonsdale and Lawkland, though it was Burton-in-Lonsdale who clinched most points overall in the indoor classes, ahead of Rathmell, Lawkland and Coniston Cold.

Rathmell’s Ronan Frankland won the junior walling section, building further on his success when declared the best overall waller on the day, while intermediate hedging victor James Lambert chipped in with further honours for the club when adjudged the best overall hedger.

Prizes were presented by Alfie Wright, club chairman, and Sue Wright, club president, with a vote of thanks given by Simon Morphet.
