Coffee and pancake morning: Saturday 25 February. Addingham Wednesday Club will hold its annual charity coffee and pancake morning. Following from the success of last year, it will once again be held in the Memorial Hall, Addingham, and will take place between 10.00 and 11.30 am. It will include various stalls: paperback books, jigsaws, bric a brac, home cooking and a raffle as well as the freshly made pancakes. The charity chosen to benefit this year is the Ilkley branch of Yorkshire Cancer Research. 30,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in Yorkshire. As Yorkshire’s independent cancer charity, Yorkshire Cancer Research’s aim is to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Each year, they fund millions of pounds worth of research that will help save lives in the region. The Addingham branch of the Co-op has very kindly agreed to donate the ingredients required to make the pancakes. Quaker Services: With so many seeking peace and tranquillity, Quakers in Airton are now holding their simple quiet meetings for worship regularly every Sunday at 3 pm, in the newly restored Airton Quaker Meeting House, Calton Lane.
All are welcome in this the earliest Non-conformist place of worship in the country, dating from the early 1600s. Our next meeting for worship will therefore take place on Sunday February 19.

Rectors message: This Sunday is known a Quinquagesima which is the last Sunday before Lent and a reminder that we have just 50 days until Easter. In the Orthodox Church, this Sunday is known as ‘Forgiveness Sunday’ as Christians ask God for forgiveness from their sins so that they may begin Lent with a good heart. We all have so much to ask God to be forgiven and, at the same time, we need to forgive those who have trespassed against us. If we allow such things to fester then our soul can be blighted. Let us all ask forgiveness and seek to forgive others this week so that we may meet Easter, the day of Resurrection, with a pure heart.
The Imposition of Ashes will take place in the Priory Church, Bolton Abbey on Wednesday 22nd February, Ash Wednesday, at 10 am.

Local History Group: Meet this evening (Thursday 16th) at 7pm in the upstairs room of Farnhill Institute. A talk will be given about an album of local photographs taken in the early years of the 20th century. The story behind the album is an interesting one and the photos themselves are impressive - some are unique.
The meeting is open to all and admission is free (although cash donations to help with costs would be appreciated).
Church news: There will be a service of Holy Communion using the Book of Common Prayer at St. Andrew’s on Sunday (19th), starting at 9.00am. The usual Sunday Holy Communion will start at 11.00am. Salterforth WI: The meeting began with the president, Donna Martin introducing well known Lancashire author, Linda Sawley, who is also an avid collector of shoes. She gave a good and amusing account of the history of shoes, and brought along examples of some of the weird and wonderful ones she has collected. They ranged from decorated wedges to 6 inch stilettos, and when one of the members was persuaded to try on a pair of the latter, it caused much laughter from everyone.
Marie Potter gave the vote of thanks and then the president continued with the business. A reminder that subs. are due at the March meeting, and members are being asked to pay only £25. The Spring Group Event will be hosted by Malham W I on Thursday 27th April in Kirby Malham parish hall and will cost £10 which includes supper. Names to Helen please. The next meeting will take place on Thursday 9th March in Salterforth village hall at 7.30pm and will be the AGM.

Eco Explorers: (for families with children aged 4-11) starts again this Wednesday 22 February, and as the days are still short the group will be meeting inside at St John’s Church Hall at 4pm-5.30pm. Amongst other activities they will be making a display about Fairtrade to go on the wall. The group will meet every two weeks. Activities later this spring will include walks to learn about local trees, lichens, flowers, wildlife and streamlife, plus fun games and art activities related to this. New families welcome. Church news: Settle Parish Church: Folk from the 3 Parishes of Settle, Giggleswick and Rathmell with Wigglesworth are gearing up for a couple of busy weekends before the end of February. On Saturday 18 February we head to Tosside Community Hall for a 3 Parishes Awayday from 10am ‘til 4pm.
At 11am on Sunday, 19 February, Revd Julie Clarkson leads the Morning Worship. In the afternoon we open the doors and invite everyone to Café Church at 3pm. It’s a more relaxed way of ‘doing Church’ with coffee and cake and ‘live music’. Everyone is very welcome to ‘give it a try’.
The season of Lent begins with a service of Holy Communion and Imposition of Ashes on Ash Wednesday, 22 February, at 7.30pm. During the 6 weeks of Lent all proceeds from the regular “Tuesday Café” will be donated to the Turkey/Syria Earthquake Appeal.
Pancakes: There’s the promise of pancakes galore on Shrove Tuesday, 21 February. Giggleswick with Settle Mothers’ Union members are inviting families to call in for ‘tea’, at Holy Ascension after school, on Shrove Tuesday. Pancakes and lots of tasty toppings will be on the menu from 3pm.
Big Sing: John Bell, from the Iona Community, will be leading ‘The Big Sing’ on Saturday 25 February at St Alkelda’s from 2pm ‘til 4pm. John will help us to discover and sing songs from all over the world which connect faith to the big justice issues of the day. He will be the preacher at the 3 Parishes Communion Service at St Alkelda’s the following day, Sunday 26 February, at 10am. Everyone is invited to be part of these special events.
Ewecross: The churches of the Bowland and Ewecross Deanery invite everyone to the Deanery Lent Course which begins on Tuesday 28 February, 7pm for 7.30pm, at Holy Ascension, Settle. The course will feature material from “How Village Churches Thrive” (Church House Publishing, 2022). John Dawson is the first guest speaker of the 5 week course. His subject is “Rural Life Today”.
Wild Ingleborough: Fighting climate change, aiding nature’s recovery” is the title of the talk to be given at Craven Conservation Group’s meeting tonight (Thursday 16 February) at 7.30pm at St John’s Methodist Church, Settle, BD24 9JH. It will be given by Ellie Parker, Wild Ingleborough Community Engagement Officer. She will talk about the aims of the Wild Ingleborough project. These include: long term benefits for climate change & reducing species loss, improving habitats for wildlife and community engagement. Entrance: non-members: £5; members: £1. Settle Photographic Group: Monday 20th February 7.30pm on Zoom. Going across the pond we are holding the second part of our photo swap with Upper Merion Camera Club (from the USA). This time we will be able to discuss the feedback that they have provided on our member’s images. Following the excellent talk by Astrid McGechan we will also review the members interpretation of “Photography and Emotion” in our monthly gallery.
