SKIPTON bar Flutez and Fizz has got the go-ahead to expand.

The bar, which currently occupies part of the ground floor of Regal Buildings in Keighley Road, has been given permission to extend into the former beauty parlour, above it,  on the first floor.

Flutez and Fizz plans to use the section of the first floor of the building, which is also home to Kooky nightclub, as a bar and restaurant.

Built towards the end of the 1920s, Regal Buildings is so called because it was originally a Regal Cinema. It is inside the town's conservation area.

A Craven District Council planning officer's report said that the plan was acceptable and should be approved.

The council’s Environmental Health department said while it had no objection to the plan, it recommended the addition of a condition requiring sound insulation to 'protect the amenity of other occupiers of the building'.

But the report stated: "Taking into consideration the other uses of the building it is considered that the sound insulation would not be reasonable as it is surrounded by a nightclub and the proposal’s adjoining bar on the ground floor.

"For these reasons it is considered that the impact of the development upon neighbouring amenity is acceptable. The proposal would not have a detrimental visual or amenity impact upon the surrounding area and is therefore recommended for approval."
