SETTLE Library is due to hold a 'slipper social' event this month when older people can go along, have a chat, and pick up a free pair of anti-slip footwear.
Last year, some 358 pairs of safe slippers, which have rubber soles, wider-fitting and Velcro fastening, were handed out to similar events held in libraries across North Yorkshire.
And during the afternoon of Wednesday, March 22, there be a slipper social at Settle Library.
The library service has been working with North Yorkshire Sport and other partners to stage the events which are aimed at helping to prevent falls by older people. A common cause of which is loose, worn or backless slippers.
Joining NY Sport at the library, from 2pm to 4pm, will be Age UK, Settle and District U3A, the fire and rescue service and Living Well to offer free support, advice and information. There will also be cost of living advice from the adult learning service’s Multiply team.
