PEOPLE in West Craven planning to mark the coronation of King Charles III are being urged by Pendle Council to make sure everything is in place to make sure celebrations go smoothly.

The coronation of The King and The Queen Consort is due to take place on Saturday, May 6 with events taking place until the Monday, which has been made a bank holiday.

Councillor Mike Goulthorp, deputy leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “During the coronation weekend, there will be plenty of opportunities to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

“This includes an extra bank holiday on Monday May 8 when everyone will be invited to take part in The Big Help Out to try volunteering and support their local area.”

For those planning an event, the council has pulled together information on what people need to do.

Small street parties and events on private land do not need approval from the council, unless they require a street closure.

Applications for street closures need to be received by the council by April 21 to give the council time to consult the police and Lancashire County Council. The council is also asking people to tell neighbours what they are planning. Requests to use council land such as a park also need approval and an events application pack should be completed by Friday, April 7.

If organisers plan to sell alcohol or include entertainment, then a temporary events notice will be needed.

It costs £21 to apply and the deadline to get them to the council is Friday, April 21.
