COMMUNITY stalwarts were named amongst 'Barlick's best' at the presentation of the Pride of Barnoldswick Awards.

Organised by Barnoldswick Town Council, the award winners, nominated by the public, included a whole nursing team, the volunteer behind a 'couch to 5k' programme and the team behind the town's Bancroft Mill Engine Museum.

Councillor Jodie Marie Greaves, chair of the town council, who presented the awards, said: "The nominations recognise the outstanding contribution made to the life of the town by people and organisations who go above and beyond. They are well deserved."

In her annual report at the event, Cllr Greaves also paid tribute to the late Joan Shaw and Harrold Hoggarth, who she said had both made enormous contributions to the town during their lifetimes.

Pride of Barnoldswick Awards were presented to: Maureen Blackwell - for her video walks providing second-hand exercise for people forced to be sedentary; Sabeeha Begum - for her selfless random acts of kindness, paying for people's shopping; James Bontoft - for going the extra mile and saving people's sight through his high-level care; Ken Hartley - for invaluable contribution to the life of the town. A founder-member of Barnoldswick in Bloom, fount of knowledge on historical matters, civic leader and charity fundraiser.

Pendle East District Nursing Team - the team has gone above and beyond to look after their patients through the pandemic and beyond. 'True heroes', whose care is second to none; Norman Barnes- A stalwart of Barnoldswick Brass Band as its drummer for many years, Norman' contribution to the town has been outstanding; Ian Greenwood - for providing three decades of service to Barnoldswick residents, Ian has provided doorstep deliveries without fail. He is a 'pillar of the community.' Brian and Joan Robinson - for their community first aid training, and being a couple who are a key part of the community; Alan King -for volunteering to run the 'couch to 5k' groups and supporting runners to achieve greater goals; Bancroft Mill Engine Museum - for the dedicated work in operating and maintaining a unique part of Barnoldswick's cotton manufacturing heritage; Aiden Wellock, Mick Warne, Faye Thompson, Phil Schofield and Jack Barker - for their photography work at Bands On The Square; Ashley Walsh, Daniel Inman and Jordan Slade -for organising the annual Mick Hartley Memorial Football Match which has raised thousands of pounds for local charity Bosom Friends.
