DRIVERS are being warned of a five-day closure of Marton Road, Gargrave, next week due to repairs of a canal bridge.

Repairs to Priestholme Bridge, between Gargrave and Bank Newton, are due to start on Monday (March 13) and take up until Friday (March 17).

The listed Priestholme bridge has been hit several times over the years with the last substantial damage caused sometime over the Christmas and New Year holiday in 2019/20. In 2009, while the bridge was in the process of being repaired, work was put back because of stone thieves.

Previously, the Canal and River Trust has said it would cost around £25,000 to repair the bridge.
