A CHARITY that takes older and disabled people on canal trips will be welcoming potential users for a look-round its specially adapted boat during two open days.

The Spirit of Endeavour used to be run by Skipton and Craven Action for Disability (SCAD) which was forced to close at the end of last year. The adapted wide-beam boat now operates as Spirit of Endeavour (Yorkshire) CIO.

The boat will be moored at the Canal Basin, Skipton, on Friday, March 24, from 11am and 6pm, and on Saturday, March 25, from 10am and 3pm.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "We would like to welcome visitors to look around, talk to the trustees and volunteers and find out what we do. There will be a video presentation available, information to take away and refreshments.

"Our aim is to attract more volunteers and find a wider audience so we can increase our reach and social impact, especially as people who would benefit are seeking to get out and about again.

"The boat can take up to 12 passengers including any organisers/carers and included in that is the capability to take up to 4 wheelchairs. Anyone can book the boat but the majority of our passengers come from care/nursing homes and community groups. It offers them a complete change of scene, different stimulation and a chance to enjoy the scenery and fresh air."
