BARCLAYS Bank is pressing on with its closure of its branch in Church Street, Barnoldswick by applying to remove signs, CCTV cameras and the ATM machine.

An application to Pendle Council seeks permission to remove external signs, nameplates and cameras and 'make good' the existing stonework. It plans to remove the ATM machine and to in-fill it with 'stone brick and a stainless steel band' to match what is already there.

Also included is the covering up of a letter box with a metal plate and the removal of Covid stickers.

A design and access statement to the council says the plans will see the decommissioning of the bank branch. The building itself is not listed, but is within the Barnoldswick Conservation Area.

It states: "The building has been a Barclays Bank for a number of years, serving the local community during this time. This building is in a prominent central location alongside other businesses and financial institutions within an established town centre community."

It adds that the work is intended to return the building to its 'pre-Barclays' occupation as much as possible, given its location in the conservation area.

Barclays said earlier this year its Barnoldswick branch would close on April 14 but that it was looking to open a 'Barclays Local' in the town.
