I WAS delighted that our work in transforming Settle Pool was recognised in the Craven Legacy Awards made at the final council meeting on March 30.
I did initially have some reservations about accepting the award as it was made to me individually, as chair of the pool trustees from 2016 until the end of last year, rather than the pool as an organisation.
The redevelopment was never the work of one individual, but a collective effort involving the trustees, staff and the many volunteers who work tirelessly all year round on behalf of the pool.
I was however persuaded that if I did not accept the award then there would be no recognition for the pool at this time and that would let down all those who contributed to the redevelopment over many years.
So in accepting this award I want to make it very clear that this award is for the whole collective effort that achieved our transformed pool and the creation of the new fitSpace facility.
I have now stepped down as chair of the trustees, but do want to take this opportunity to wish all the best to everyone involved in the pool.
