'HOW green are our villages' and ‘what more can we do' were questions residents of Embsay and Eastby were thinking about when they attended an environment awareness event in the village.

Friends of Embsay with Eastby Nature Reserve, Holme Grown Eastby, the parish council, the village institute, St Mary’s Church Eco Group, St Mary’s Carbon Zero Group, the WI, the community library and the Fairtrade group all had displays at the event held at Embsay with Eastby Village Institute. There were activities for the children and storytelling in the library, and making bird food was very popular.

The seven classes at Embsay CoE Primary School each produced a panel depicting the biblical days of creation.

Professor Rick Battarbee’s presentation focussing on environmental initiatives in Addingham was inspiring and warmly received.

Barbara Kipling, one of the organisers said: “The event was attended by 120 adults and over 20 children. 20 people have expressed an interest in forming an environmental group and we will be getting together to discuss the next steps."

The meeting will take place on Thursday, April 20 at 7.30pm in Embsay with Eastby Village Institute.
