A DEMONSTRATION of the ancient martial art of T'ai Chi is due to take place at Skipton Canal Basin on the afternoon of Saturday, April 29.

In celebration of World T'ai Chi day, Julie Jones of T’ai Chi Skipton is planning a demonstration of the ancient art with a group of her pupils and teachers.

T’ai Chi was created many centuries ago. The moves have been passed down through many generations of the families practising these arts.

Julie, who runs several classes in Skipton, said: “Chi is your life force – it’s the energy that flows through you, giving you vitality and keeping you healthy. T’ai Chi’s origins are based on Taoist philosophy, Chinese Martial Arts and traditional Chinese medicine.”

“The moves are very slow and deliberate, and are very beautiful to watch, but feel even better to perform. T’ai Chi has been helping to keep people healthy for thousands of years, helping improve posture, balance, breathing, co-ordination and relaxation.”

The demonstration will take place at 2pm on April 29
