A NEW charity shop is due to be opened in Skipton on Thursday (April 20) by the town's deputy mayor.

Councillor Sheila Bentley will carry out a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at the opening of the new Yorkshire Cancer Research shop in the former Laura Ashley store in Craven Court, off the High Street. She will joined at the 11am opening by Dr Kathryn Scott, chief executive at Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The shop, the seventh of the charity's retail network, will sell a variety of high-quality goods including ladies’, men’s and children’s fashion, books, homeware and furniture. It will be open every day, including Sundays.

Dr Scott has said: “Our shops are so important in helping to support world-leading research in Yorkshire. The opening of our new shop in Skipton means we can increase awareness of our work while raising much needed funds so more people survive cancer."
