SKIPTON wine enthusiasts raised a toast to King Charles III and Queen Camilla at a special event.

Members of the Compagnons du Beaujolais - Devoir du Skipton met at The Box Tree restaurant in Ilkley, for the event, organised by vice-president, Didier Da Costa, which saw Master Compagnons wearing the traditional uniform of the order.

The group meets regularly in Skipton, including at the Bistro des Amis, Skipton and hosts events promoting the culture of Beaujolais, France, honouring the traditions of the international order.

In the aftermath of the Second World War, the idea of creating a brotherhood in Beaujolais was born in Liergues in 1947, when all the efforts undertaken between the two wars to promote wines around the controlled designations of origin had been destroyed.

It was on March 31, 1948, in Villefranche, that the first Assembly of the Compagnons du Beaujolais was formed, bringing together the Compagnons du Cuvier, based in Saint-Georges-de-Reneins and the Knights of Beaujolais, whose stronghold was Denicé.
