THE main fundraiser for the year for Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association is due to take place on Saturday, June 24.

The Wharfedale Three Peaks Challenge will be centred in Kettlewell from where people will be able to choose between three routes - the most challenging of which is the 18 mile three peak challenge, taking in Birks Fell, Buckden Pike and the mighty Great Whernside. The 13.5 mile two peak route takes in Buckden Pike and Great Whernside, while the 4.5 mile family friendly route follows the river up to Starbotton before returning along the Dales Way.

People are asked to pay to take part, and are welcome to walk, or to run along the routes, to raise funds to help support the work of the team, which operates throughout the year.

A spokesperson for the Grassington based UWFRA, which relies totally on public donations to carry out its rescues of both people and animals, said: "We are supported again this year by Midgley Motor Cars who are providing a vehicle for us to use during the event, many thanks, this help makes the job of getting people and equipment around the event much easier."
