COMING at the end of June, Grassington Players centenary show has attracted a large cast including lapsed members and a fresh contingent of new talent.

The ambitious production spans material from each decade since the group was formed in 1923 and has been masterminded by four experienced directors from the society; Paula Vickers, Mark Bamforth, Katie Milner and chairman John Anderson with the support of musical director Ed Williams, the committee and backstage crew.

A Century of Stage and Screen features 24 acts including songs from the shows, excerpts from memorable plays and takes on some TV comedy favourites. 130 parts are played by the cast of 25 performers.

President and 'queen of props', Mary Wilkinson, said: “Everyone wanted to be involved in the show. Rehearsals have been hugely challenging with several scenes being worked on simultaneously, so that while some singers are working with the pianist in one corner, another group has been working on choreography in the middle of the hall while another group rehearses a dramatic scene on the stage.

"It’s noisy, organised chaos but there is fantastic atmosphere. The energy of the youngsters helps to invigorate the production and bodes well for the next 100 years of the society."

The centenary show will be performed on the main stage at Grassington Devonshire Institute - the town hall - on Friday June 30 at 7.30pm followed by a matinee on Saturday July 1 at 2.30pm with the final show in the evening at 7.30pm.
