DRONE footage has captured a bird's eye view of Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway which many will never have seen before.

The aerial view of the 134-year-old preserved railway line has been captured using Networx3 UAV’s Matrice M30T and DJI Avata drones.

Networx3 UAV’s also shot spectacular cinematic footage of the painstakingly restored and much-loved locomotive Beatrice as she chugged her way along the line in the snow-covered Yorkshire Dales.

Using all the drones’ capabilities - including high-definition cameras which can pick up an image the size of a postage stamp from a kilometre away – Networx3 UAV’s newest drone pilot Olivia Cambridge has created a short film showcasing the railway from the air.

Olivia said: “Networx3 UAV might be known for roof surveys, wind turbine inspections and safety work in gas pipelines but our drones can also film beautiful and atmospheric footage like this.

“Our video shows off the sights and sounds of this picturesque heritage railway and follows ex-colliery workhorse locomotive Beatrice through clouds of steam as she makes her way into Embsay Station with its restored Victorian features.

“We’re delighted that we’ve been able to capture the powerful magic of this majestic steam engine in all her glory.”

Networx3 UAV has teamed up with green energy experts Squirrel Energy as they fit solar panels on the railway’s engine sheds to tackle a huge hike in its electricity bill.

Networx3 UAV’s commercial drone pilots undertook detailed roof inspections on the engine sheds ahead of installation but took the opportunity to use their professional skills in a more creative way in a short promotional video for the railway.

The two-minute broadcast quality film, shot earlier this year, gives a 360-degree view of the substantial site from the air with its signal boxes, miles of track and sidings and extensive engine sheds.

Viewers are also treated to a driver's eye view of the track as it pulls out of the station. The drones also capture shops of the tops of carriages and through engine sheds.

The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway operates on a former route of the Midland Railway and welcomes tens of thousands of visitors each year.

The railway, operated by a team of dedicated volunteers and a small band of paid staff, is 4.5 miles long and is the base for a range of historic pieces of rolling stock including the 1887 Queen Victoria Saloon owned by associated organisation Stately Trains.
