MOTORCYCLE trials bike legend Dougie Lampkin has submitted plans for holiday cottages at his home in Bell Busk, near Coniston Cold.

In an application to North Yorkshire Council, Dougie and Nicola Lampkin have asked for permission to change the use of garages and workshops at The Mill to three, three-bedroom holiday lets.

In submissions to the council, it is stated that the building - one of four on the site of a former cotton mill next to the River Aire - was originally a domestic store, built in 2011 and which in 2019 was given permission for conversion to a gin distillery.

The west wing of the building will - if allowed - be converted into holiday lets, with only changes to existing doors and windows necessary.

Six off road parking spaces will be provided next to the holiday cottages and they will be screened by trees.

A heritage statement with the application says: "The application building is an entirely modern structure, forming part of an essentially residential group with a commercial component, which has been established on the site of a former cotton mill.

"It makes a very small positive contribution to the Bell Busk Conservation Area."

The application concludes: "The proposed change of use to holiday accommodation is considered entirely acceptable in terms of any impact on the historic environment."
