THERE will be opportunities to explore the history of the churches of St Peter's Church, East Marton, and St Mary's Church Thornton-in Craven, at heritage open days during the second weekend in September.

St Peter's Church, in Church Lane, off the A59, will be open on Saturday, September 9 from 10am to 4pm; and on the Sunday, September 10, from 12 midday to 4pm. Light refreshments will be available.

St Mary's, Thornton, will be open Friday September, 8 from 11am to 4.30pm; on Saturday, from 11am to 4.30pm, and on Sunday, from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Works of art created by local residents will be on display, and an exhibition from the Earby and District History Society. Light refreshments will also be on offer.

The churches are part of the Benefice of Broughton, Marton and Thornton.
