MAKERS of Yorkshire Dales Monopoly are looking for three charities to feature on the special edition of the board game.

Earlier this month, when it was announced that an official Dales version of the world-famous game was set to come out next spring, people were invited to suggest what landmarks and places ought to make it onto the board.

Now, the hunt is on for three charities to star on each of the game's three Community Chest spaces, with people given a week from midnight tonight (Thursday) to put forward their suggestions.

John Keen-Tomlinson, custom games executive at Winning Moves UK, which is producing the board under license from toy and game company, Hasbro, said: "It's our way of thanking the public for getting behind the Monopoly: Yorkshire Dales Edition game so very enthusiastically."

To be in the running to make it onto the board, charities need to be based in the Craven/Dales area, and need to be a registered charity. They can put themselves forward, or be nominated by someone else, they just need to be made by midnight on September 7.

Meanwhile, the deadline for location suggestions, which so far include Malham Cove, Skipton Castle and Bolton Abbey, is midnight tonight (Thursday, August 31).

Mr Keen-Tomlinson added: "We would like to formally thank each and every person who has sent in nominations, and, as our way of a thank you, three Yorkshire Dales charities will now get to star in the game. We feel that charities getting to feature on the board’s three Community Chest spaces is a great fit, bearing in mind the ‘community’ aspect of these unique Monopoly features.”

In all, more than 30 landmarks and favourites will be showcased in the game. The new board will see exclusively Dales landmarks replacing the likes of ‘Mayfair’ and ‘Park Lane’ from the classic Monopoly: London original. The Chance and Community Chest cards are being customised too, as are the tokens. A pair of walking boots could replace ‘the old boot’. A slice of Wensleydale cheese, a bicycle and a slab of dry-stone walling are also in the running as tokens.

The game will hit the shops next spring 2024. Charity nominations via either the official Yorkshire Dales Monopoly Facebook page or to dales@winningmoves.co.uk. Suggestions are invited until 23.59pm on Thursday, September 7.
