A DALES pub has closed for the second time in as many years without warning.

The Boar's Head, in Long Preston, is owned by Punch Pubs & Co. Earlier in the summer a tenant took over the premises in Main Street but only stayed a matter of weeks after finding it a struggle to attract customers. He told a Herald reporter at the time that it had cost him £6,000 to put beer in but customers were not turning up.

He said it was a Catch 22 situation in that he wanted to provide food and take on staff but could only do so if the footfall increased. Within two weeks he had left.

Around a month ago another tenant moved in and introduced food and took on staff, but earlier this week it was announced on social media that he has now gone too and the place has been shut up again.

A spokesperson at Punch Pubs & Co said: “We can confirm that the Boar's Head pub, in Long Preston, is temporarily closed. Whilst we evaluate our plans for the pub, we are working hard to recruit a new publican and look forward to opening to the community again very soon.”
