SKIPTON Girls School students held a bake sale, raising £115 for the British Red Cross Moroccan Earthquake Appeal .
The nine girls who ran the after school fundraiser, wanted to do what they could following September's devastating disaster, that claimed more than 3,000 lives and left many more injured.
The students were particularly moved to help as in July, as part of an expedition to Morocco, they visited Tabant, a village in the Atlas Mountains where the earthquake occurred, and Essaouira, one of the coastal cities where the tremors were felt.
Aminah Vaseem, one of those who ran the sale, said the people in Morocco were ‘amazing and very welcoming’.
She added that the experience was ‘eye-opening’ due to the lack of infrastructure in Morocco, in comparison to the UK, making the need for donations ever greater as the country lacks the resources to repair the damages from the earthquake.
