A CRAFTSMAN who is hugely influenced by landmarks surrounding his Dales home has been inspired to design a cutting board by some eye-catching rock formations on the moors above a Craven village.

Tom Addison has produced a stylish serving board designed for a shared eating experience for cheeses, cold meats, fruits and other dining delicacies based on the anvil-shaped rocks on the wind swept fells above Addingham.

The 33-year-old fine furniture maker, who is a former English fell running champion, has created the piece of luxury kitchenware in timely celebration of the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival which takes palce throughout the Dales this coming weekend.

Tom, who has 30,000 followers on social media since setting up business near Hawes, said he wanted to incorporate the weathered geological features of the rocks in the board which will sit alongside a highly sought after bottle opener he makes based on Lady Hill in Wensleydale.

''I've been running and racing over these moors since I was a young lad taking part in events on Ilkley and Rombalds moors,'' said the Steeton-born father-of-two. ''I have some very fond memories of the area and its high trails.

"I’m lucky enough to live and work in the Dales. I take great pleasure getting out into the hills with my family and dog, whether it’s running or walking and I find the scenery and peace and quiet very inspiring for my designing.

''It's very special to me to capture aspects of this landscape in my furniture.''

Julie Barker, Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, visitor services manager said: " Tom has tailored his products to reflect the special qualities of the National Park by creating handcrafted cheese boards for the cheese festival and dark sky constellation boxes for our Dark Skies festival. It’s great to have local businesses inspiring visitors to discover these local produce stories, tastes and experiences for themselves."
