ABOUT 23 years ago it was decided to have a coffee after the Tuesday morning service at Holy Ascension Church, Settle.

Run by volunteers, over the years it went from coffee to lunches. Our meat and potato pie and fruit crumble brought people from near and far. Christmas dinner, harvest dinner and any excuse dinners for the past 20 years, not forgetting the three charities a year we supported.

We volunteers are hanging up our aprons on October 10. We would like to say a very heart-felt thank you to all past and present volunteers. To Ken Varley for his hard work with tables along with Maureen Varley's knitting stall and to all the people who have become good friends from near and far - some very far in their coaches stopping to join us for coffee and toasted teacake before going on their way.

We have been able to have a new kitchen, heating system and emergency door fitted in the church - all thanks to people supporting us throughout the years.

The money we make on Tuesday, October 10, will go to UNICEF to support families affected in the recent floods in Libya.

God bless and thank you
