ARTIST and performer Yasmeen Audisho Ghrawi will be in Barnoldswick this weekend for a show that promises 'powerful reflections on democracy, dictatorship, and the human right to dream'.

From the Daughter of A Dictator is a one-person show exploring Yasmeen's personal journey of migration from Baghdad to Beirut to Berlin to Britain and comes to Barnoldswick courtesy of Spot On Rural and Library Touring.

The play presents a 'scrapbook of memories', offering an insight into what it was like to grow up in a dictatorship and the impact it has had on her experiences as she has moved from place to place, before settling in Britain.

Yasmeen uses her experiences to offer up some challenges to how ‘Western democracy’ or ‘democrashy’ - as she refers to the current crisis of democracy- can be viewed.

It is one of many  live events taking place in village halls and community venues across Lancashire as part of the Spot On Autumn 2023 programme. Visit the Spot On Lancashire website for the full programme at www.spotonlancashire.co.uk

From the Daughter of A Dictator will be at The Rainhall Centre on Friday (November 3) at 7pm. Tickets £10, in cash over the counter, or online at: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/the-rainhall-centre/t-rpayoqx
