SKIPTON MP Julian Smith has met Bentham resident Viv Barclay to find out more about her world record dream to row the Atlantic.

North Craven woman aims to row across the Atlantic

Next year, at the age of 59, Viv will attempt to row 3,000 miles solo across the Atlantic Ocean. If she succeeds, she will become the oldest woman ever to make the journey, which is often referred to as the World’s Toughest Row. She is raising money for The Menopause Charity, which helps support the roughly 15.5 million women who are going through menopause at any one time.

Viv is seeking sponsorship to raise around £100,000 to take part and must raise between £25,000 to 30,000 by the end of 2023.  Mr Smith said: “Meeting Viv last week was nothing short of inspirational. Do have a look at what’s she trying to achieve to raise awareness of this fantastic cause.”
