BENTHAM firefighters are hoping to raise well over £1,000 this weekend by climbing a 44ft (13.5m) high ladder as many times as possible in just one hour.

Last year, the team ascended the ladder a very impressive 156 times as part of 'December Ascender', an annual event in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity.

At this year's event on Sunday (December 17), they will be aiming to beat last year's total of more than £1,000.

Bentham Fire Station, Banks Rise, will be open to the public on Sunday for the event, from 10.30am, with the challenge getting underway at 11am.

A spokesperson for Bentham firefighters said: "Join us for a mince pie and to cheer on the team as they climb the 13.5metre ladder as many times as possible in one hour in aid of the Firefighters Charity."

The Fire Fighters Charity offers specialist lifelong health & wellbeing support for the UK fire & rescue community, empowering individuals and families to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives.
