SCOTTISH punk band The Skids will be appearing at Settle Victoria Hall in the new year as part of a UK-wide tour - 45 years after the band first hit the charts.

The band, featuring founder member vocalist Richard Jobson, have been on tour since October, often supporting From the Jam, and come to Settle on January 18 before returning to the area later in the year for an already sold out performance on April 7 at the Barnoldswick Music and Arts Centre.

Formed in 1977 in Dunfermline, Scotland by Richard Jobson, Stuart Adamson, Bill Simpson and Tom Kellichan, the band received coverage by radio presenter and journalist John Peel, supported The Clash in concert and then were signed to Virgin Records in 1978.

The band's first singles were Sweet Surburbia, The Saints are Coming and Into the Valley, which reached the UK Top Ten in early 1979. Debut album Scared to Dance; came out in the same year and was quickly followed by two chart singles – Masquerade and Working for the Yankee Dollar.

Both singles were taken from the Bill Nelson produced second album Days in Europa, and the album also featured new member Rusty Egan of Rich Kids and Visage fame after the departure of Tom Kellichan.

The band released two more albums - The Absolute Game in 1980 and Joy in 1981 before members went their separate ways. Stuart Adamson, who died in 2001, went on to have worldwide success with his new band Big Country.
