BIN emptying days in Barnoldswick and Earby will change over the festive season.

Residents across Pendle are being urged to check their recycling and refuse collection calendar for the correct day to put their bins out.

Changes run from Saturday (December 23) right until Saturday January 6.

Bins due for emptying on Christmas Day will be collected on Saturday instead, and all other collections will be one day later than normal. The normal service will resume from Monday, January 8.

Residents are also being asked to make sure they park leaving space for refuse vehicles to access back streets on collection days.

If you have extra recycling that won’t fit in your bin, plastic tubs, bottles and trays can be placed in sacks or recycling boxes and left next to your bin on collection day.

David Walker, Pendle Borough Council's Assistant Director of Operational Services, is asking residents to check their recycling calendars for collection dates and what goes in each recycling bin.

He said: “We use a lot of foil over the festive season. Don’t forget if you can scrunch it and it stays scrunched, the foil can go into your brown bin, this means chocolate wrappers and mince pie foil cups can all be recycled.”

Residents with lots of extra waste who don’t want to wait until the next ‘bin day’, can take their unwanted rubbish to the Household Waste Recycling Centres at Barnoldswick, which will be open as normal except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, see: www.pendle.gov.uk/recyclingandrefuse for opening times.
