CONTROVERSIAL plans to build 38 new homes on a green field site off Marton Road, Gargrave, will be decided by councillors, heard a meeting of the parish council.

North Yorkshire Councillor Simon Myers, who represents Mid Craven, told parish councillors that he was sure the application would go before the Skipton and Ripon area planning committee of North Yorkshire Council, and not be decided by officers with delegated responsibility.

Resubmitted plans by builders RN Wooler and Co for the site, which is allocated for housing in both the Craven Local Plan and the Gargrave Neighbourhood Plan, were validated in October last year. It followed an earlier scheme for 36 homes on the same site which was refused in January, 2023.

The resubmitted scheme, which features a mixture of one to four bedroom homes, including 11 affordable, has so far generated 128 public comments, mostly against.

The parish council has also lodged its objections to the scheme, which comments there are no immediate differences between it and the earlier, refused scheme, as well as raising fresh concerns about its design, insufficient information regarding flooding and pedestrian and road safety concerns.

The Lead Local Flood Authority recommends conditions if planning is permitted, but states: "The submitted documents demonstrate a reasonable approach to the management of surface water on the site."
