PLANS to replace suspended ceilings in Skipton Town Hall are being recommended for approval next week.

A report to the Skipton and Ripon area planning committee meeting recommends the granting of listed building consent for work to take place at the offices of Skipton Town Council.

The work being proposed by North Yorkshire Council, which owns the building, is to install new suspended ceilings in five rooms on the first floor of the hall as well as the ceiling above the reception desk.

It will also see the removal of the existing defective lath and plaster ceilings and their repair before the replacement ceilings are installed.

The report to Tuesday's (March 5) meeting in the Craven office of the council, in Belle Vue Square, Broughton Road, says that the work will contribute to the long term future of the hall, which is a heritage asset.

Skipton Town Council moved out of the town hall towards the end of last year and have been occupying temporary accommodation in Belle Vue Square as well as considering other alternative office space in the town centre.

Councillors at Tuesday's meeting, which starts at 1pm, will also consider plans to build a single house at Mill Cottage, Cowling, and a timber holiday lodges development off Carla Beck Lane, Carleton.
