A 79-YEAR old man was reported to be having difficulty breathing after climbing the steps to the top of Malham Cove on Saturday afternoon.

The man, who was part of a coach party, was assessed by paramedics before being helped back to the village by mountain rescue volunteers.

A spokesperson for Clapham based Cave Rescue Organisation said: "Yorkshire Ambulance Service paramedics assessed the patient before team members assisted him in walking to a team vehicle on the Malham Rakes road.

"He was taken down to Malham village for further assessment in the road ambulance before being returned to his party’s coach.

"Meanwhile, some of the party continued their walk and others, who had become chilled while waiting in the sleet and rain, were accompanied down to the village for a warming drink."
