A DRINK-driver lost control of her car near Coniston cold after one of its tyres 'de-pressurised', heard Skipton Magistrates Court.

Sarah Stell, 21, who the court heard on Friday, works in hospitality, had just started a new job and had stayed after her shift for a social drink.

Police responding to a report of a collision on the A65 on September 4 last year, breathalysed Stell which showed she was over the alcohol limit. At hospital, where she was taken following the incident, a blood sample showed she had 106 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80.

Stell, of Prince Street, Haworth, and of no previous convictions, admitted drink driving.

In mitigation, Keith Blackwell said Stell did not believe she was over the limit and had lost control of her her car after one of its tyres 'de-pressurised', which she believed was due to a puncture.

No other car was involved, and Stell's vehicle rolled over before coming to a halt.

"She is a young lady who deeply regrets what happened," said Mr Blackwell.

Stell was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £460 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £184. If she completes a drink-drivers rehabilitation course, her ban will be reduced by three months.
