A NEW programme of guided walks in the Yorkshire Dales has been launched with walks linked to bus timetables and aimed at walkers of all levels of fitness.
The Friends of DalesBus, the group of volunteers supporting the DalesBus network of weekend bus services from West Yorkshire into the Dales national park, hopes the programme, which includes some special 'easy' walks, will encourage more people without access to their own car to get out in the countryside.
Walks co-ordinator, Michael Pascal, said: “Using the bus allows us to do more interesting point-to-point walks through the Yorkshire Dales. Many people are nervous about using the bus and lack confidence that they will get back to the bus stop in time. But with an experienced walk leader, this will not be a problem”.
Walks include, an Easter Sunday, March 31, easy, five mile walk from Airton to Malham; and on April 7, a moderate, seven mile walk from Malham to Kilnsey.
Walks are free of charge , providing walkers get there by bus (maximum fare for a single journey just £2). Full details: www.dalesbusramblers.org.uk
