MORE than 150 people attended a Ramadan Iftar event at Eastwood Community School in Keighley.

Children shared with the audience the meaning to them of Ramadan and fasting, recited poems and sang songs.

After enjoying traditional dates and water, those present were served with a three-course meal by Chakswari Catering, of Bradford.

Other, locally-based companies also contributed.

The evening raised £1,500, through ticket sales and donations, for the Human Appeal.

Zaibun Khan – pastoral, inclusion and wellbeing lead at the school – said the event was a huge success.

She added: "It represented our visions and values – to collaborate with, and involve, the community and champion the children.

"This was the first time we've organised such an event, but after the overwhelmingly positive feedback given to staff on the night it won't be the last!

"Many parents expressed their appreciation to the school and staff for organising the event."
