A 48-YEAR old man from Wigglesworth charged with a number of animal welfare and carcase handling offences has had his case adjourned until next month.

Hayden Fortune, 48, of Pyethornes Farm, is charged with nine offences alleged to have taken place between January 1 and August 14 last year at Wigglesworth.

He is charged that with between January 13 and March 22 last year that he did not take reasonable steps to ensure that the needs of 57 bovine animals were met to the extent required by good practice; and that on March 22 he failed to take all reasonable steps to ensure that the conditions of cattle complied with regulations.

Fortune is further charged with not taking steps to ensure the needs of of two calves were met to the extent required by good practice between February 22 and April 5; and on March 14 not taking steps to ensure the needs of 11 adult pigs and six piglets were met to the extent required by good practice.

He is also charged with failing to comply with an animal by-product requirement, to do with the treatment of animal carcasses, on March 14; between March 22 and March 25; between April 5 and April 26; again between April 5 and April 26; and between April 5 and August 14.

On Friday last week, York Magistrates Court adjourned the case until June 21 for a plea to be entered.
