Bolton Abbey

Rector’s message: This Sunday is Trinity Sunday. It is one of the crowning glories of the Church calendar when we can say, like the Seraphim, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts’. Although the Trinity is hard to understand, it makes perfect sense in the light of the last few weeks. We celebrated the Ascension of our Lord on Ascension Day followed by the Feast of Pentecost last week where the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples in Jerusalem. We can now clearly see Father, Son and Holy Ghost and are called to live life in the power and mutual love that the Trinity represents.

Horton-in-Ribblesdale

Church news: A big thank you is extended to everyone for bringing lambs to the recent lambing service at St Oswald’s church. They were a hit with visitors enjoying cakes and also with the children. It’s good for young people to handle animals, feed them and appreciate their value to farmers. Thanks to for the refreshments and to all who served them; the bell-ringers for the quarter-peal of 1,260 changes - one of the ringers was celebrating three score years and ten-plus ten - and all who carried chairs. After an anxious week the forecast was nearly right, it was 15° rather than the promised 15.5° but felt warm in the 6mph westerly – we were promised 5mph. Hopefully Auntie Beeb will arrange to send a refund or extra sun for the Teddy Bears’ Picnic which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 2. Katie brought along some wool and explained how she hand-spins it into yarn for crafts and clothes. Olivia was interviewed about Dutch, her new tup from Scotland. Dutch Spotted Sheep from the Netherlands are relatively new to Britain. They are a particularly attractive sheep to look at and while this is an added advantage to any breed, they are becoming established commercially, with great potential in the production of prime lambs and crossbred ewes.’ Ede’s pet Lexi was a Swiss Valais Blacknose another attractive breed of sheep. An important part of the service were ‘the rogations’ or ‘requests’ for the wellbeing of farmers. A service of Holy Communion with hymns will be held in St Oswald’s church on Sunday at 10.30am.
