A NUMBER of events are taking place in Skipton and across Craven during national refugee week, which takes place from Saturday, June 15 to Sunday, June 23.

The theme of this year's week, which will celebrate what refugees, whether from Ukraine, Sudan, Syria and Afghanistan, have brought to the UK, is 'our home', and will be marked in Craven with a variety of events and displays.

In Skipton, there will be a display all week in the library and also in the town hall organised by Craven District of Sanctuary. Members of Skipton Refugee Support Group will be outside Skipton Library on Saturday (June 15) to talk to passers-by about the real issues and the possible solutions.

There will be an online talk about the situation in Sudan at 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 18; and a coffee and talk event at 10.45am on Thursday, June 20. Also on June 20, there will be a social evening with music and poetry from 7pm at Skipton Library. To access the online talk, email charles_snaygill@yahoo.co.uk.

Other events taking place are: Glusburn Community and Arts Centre, Glusburn, display of art work by children from Glusburn community primary school, all week.

Limestone Books, Settle, will run a book display in celebration of refugee week all week, and there will also be book displays at libraries at Settle, Bentham and Ingleton, as well as The Hub Bookshop in High Street, Bentham.

On Tuesday, June 18, a refugee tent will go up in Bentham High Street with members of Bentham Area Refugee Support group asking for donations for Care4Calais and signatures of support for a letter to General Election candidates about safe passage.

Storytime at Settle Library at 11.45am on Wednesday, June 19 will include ‘Welcome’ by Barroux - a story about polar bears on a rapidly melting ice floe looking for a home.

A member of Settle Area Refugee Support Group will be at Limestone Books, Settle, on Wednesday, June 19, from 10.30am to 11.30am and from 2pm to 3pm to recommend books; on Thursday, June 20 at Settle Victoria Hall Gardens, Settle, there will be 'share a cake, between 2pm and 4pm, organised by Settle Area Refugee Support Group.

Settle Library on June 22 will host a poetry reading event from 2pm to 4pm, organised by Settle Area Refugee Support Group, and on the theme 'our home'. Including tea and cake.
