STAFF from a Skipton law firm put their best foot forward to raise money for charity.

Colleagues from Walker Foster Solicitors, with family and friends, took part in a 13-mile hike on Saturday (June 8).

They walked from Skipton to Silsden and back – taking in Bradley, Cononley and Carleton.

The event – which marked the company's 105th anniversary – raised over £700 for The Principle Trust, a charity that supports disadvantaged children in the region.

And donations can still be made, at localgiving.org/fundraising/Walker-Foster-Solicitors-Big-Walk-2024

Kelly Chambers, head of people at Walker Foster Solicitors, says: "We want to thank everyone who supported the event, which followed on from a volunteering day in March when some of our team spent a day preparing the charity’s holiday homes ready to welcome more families this year.

"The walk was a very fitting way to mark 105 years of service to local communities."

In addition to its Silsden office, the company – which employs over 70 lawyers and support staff – has branches in Skipton, Barnoldswick, Settle, Ilkley, Northallerton and Harrogate.

The firm offers legal advice and representation to individuals and businesses across a range of specialisms, from family law, property and dispute resolution to employment law, wills, trusts and estates.

The Principle Trust provides respite breaks for children who are disadvantaged, disabled, have life-limiting conditions, or who have experienced poverty, trauma or abuse.

Since it was founded in 2011, it has raised over £1.7 million and provided free respite breaks to 5,000 children from across Yorkshire.

The trust owns and operates six holiday homes – two at White Cross Bay in the Lake District, and four at Marton Mere Holiday Park near Blackpool.

Founder, Mike Davies, says: "We're indebted to the team at Walker Foster.

"Thanks to such companies, the trust is able to help more of the region’s disadvantaged, disabled and poorly children to escape their everyday troubles and create valuable, happy memories."

Last month, the charity announced several new appointments as part of plans to expand its work.

Sarah Barraclough, managing director of Skipton Properties, has joined the board of trustees.

Businessman Andrew Davies, a trustee since 2018, will lead the trust alongside father Mike.

And other appointments include events manager Georgina Simpson and respite home co-ordinator, Helen Greaves.
