THE annual pedigree Blue Texel and Badger Face Texel show and sale double bill at CCM Skipton saw top call of 1100gns come from the Blues camp for a shearling ewe from David Alexander, Millside flock, Galston, Ayrshire, selling to T&AC Patchett, Leeming Bar.
The second highest price went to Elsa McKechnie’s local Silver Birch flock at Long Gill Farm, Wigglesworth, her third prize single Blue Texel, Silver Birch Hop, selling for 1000gns, also to the Patchetts.
Female and overall champion was a shearling ewe from Patrick Wilson, Arn Gill flock, Langleydale, Barnard Castle, making 500gns to Stuart Rhodes, Brompton, who also paid 600gns for the reserve female shearling ewe from Joe Thornley, Joe’s flock, Diseworth, Leicestershire.
Reserve male champion went to the first prize shearling ram from Caroline Cochran, Towerview flock, Darwen, making 700gns section top to the local show team of John Stephenson and Jill Perrings, Bordley.
Top prices and averages: Shearling rams to 700gns (av £259), ram lambs to 700gns (av £546), shearling ewes to 1100gns (av £541), ewe lambs to 350gns (av £341).
North Craven’s Becki Dakin, Rathbone flock, Eldroth, stood both Badger Faced Texel champion and reserve with shearlings by Cleenagh Darcy. Her title-winning ewe sold for 600gns to Stuart Wood, Woodies flock, Skene, Aberdeenshire, the reserve champion ram at 650gns to New York Farms, Silsden.
The Badger Face entries saw an excellent clearance rate of 89 per cent and a top price of 800gns for a ram lamb from Ben Hyde, Fredbelles flock, Ripponden, bought by R&SA Rawsthorn, Grange-over-Sands.
Hannah Pedley, High Ploughlands flock, Little Mudgrave, Kirkby Stephen, stood runner-up in both show classes, her shearling ram making 500gns, bettered at 600gns by a shearling ewe. Shearling rams averaged £560 and shearling ewes £640.
Dales Blues and Dutch Spotted saw top of 500gns fall to a Dutch Spotted ram lamb from Ben Whittam, Gilstead, Bingley, going to RJ Doyle, Grantley, Ripon, while Ken and Hazel Gamble, Easingwold, sold two Blue Texel gimmer shearlings in this section at 300gns.
