HELLIFIELD farmer Andy Lambert featured on BBC Countryfile in an episode dedicated to Bradford City of Culture.
Mr Lambert showed presenter Adam Henson his herd of Highland cattle, describing how they were very suited to the Yorkshire climate, living outdoors all year round.
The tenant farmer, named British Farming's national farmworker of the year 2024, described how they spent the winters in the high moorland part of his nearly 800 acres before being brought down to the lower lying pastures once they had calved where the grass was richer.
He also said how his ten Highland bulls were rented out to other farms as 'stud bulls', describing it as a unique business.
Mr Lambert, named British Farming's national farmworker of the year 2024, also has a small herd of Dexter cattle which are prized for their beef which goes to top London restaurants, a flock of Texel sheep and a few Belted Galloways.
He described how his grandfather had been a farmer, and he had tried doing other things in life before the pull of livestock had brought him also to farming which he loved and could not wait to get started every morning.
The BBC Countryfile episode went out on June 1 and can still be viewed on BBC iPlayer.
