A PIECE of television history with a strong link to Craven reaches its finale later this month.

70 Up, which will be shown in two parts on September 15 and 22, is the culmination of the Up Series of award-winning documentaries, which began in 1964.

One of those who will be featured in the programme is Dales farmer’s son Nick Hitchon.

Nick, who was brought up in Littondale and went to school in Skipton, died in 2023 after suffering from cancer for several years.

He persuaded the documentary team to film a final interview with him at his home in the USA, which was completed only a few days before his death.

Nick was one of 14 children from across the UK who took part in the original Seven Up! programme, when they shared their hopes for the future and their views on life.

They were interviewed every seven years after that, creating a remarkable record of their lives and a celebrated chapter of television history.

70 Up: The Final Chapter will be screened on ITV1 at 9pm on Tuesday, September 15 and on September 22 also on ITVX.
