A nine-year-old girl has written and performed her own song to raise money for a children’s charity.

Emily created the song SELFA and Me in support of SELFA Children’s Charity, which helps children and young people.

Emily’s mother, Claire Shardlow, said: "I’m incredibly grateful for everything they do for Emily, as well as the support they’ve provided to me personally.

"We both wanted to find a way to give something back, and rather than choosing a conventional fundraising challenge, Emily decided to use her love of music to do something a little different."

The family launched a GoFundMe page (click this LINK to head there) to support the fundraiser, quickly reaching their initial goal.

Ms Shardlow said: "We reached our initial £150 target in 24 hours, and after 3 days we have nearly reached £250 , but we’d love to keep the momentum going and raise as much as possible for this wonderful local charity.

"I’ve even been told by a few people that the song has even started catching on, with SELFA staff and friends singing along at home or in the office."

SELFA Children’s Charity offers activities, support, and opportunities to help young people thrive.
