Settle saw a diverse array of activities at the weekend as part of its third cycling festival.

Locals and visitors enjoyed a continental market and live music on Friday, followed by a host of cycling activities on Saturday and Sunday.

These included guided mountain biking around the Settle Loop, a freewheeling competition, electricity generation from cycling, bike stunt trials from locals Dan Millar and James Armstrong and friends, and children’s bike sport challenges.

Additionally, there was music featuring local and regional bands, Leeds Wall ran a charity climb up Castleberg Rock with live video footage into local electrical retailer Garnett’s shop window, and the Victoria Hall held a sell-out comedy night.

The community event was made possible through businesses, groups and volunteers working together under the Settle Festival umbrella.

Flags from the local Flagmakers brought colour to many shop fronts and an award for the “best-dressed” business was won by The Golden Lion pub.

Festival chairman Mark Dale said: “Again, we were blessed with great weather and a team of volunteers who helped bring all this together, coupled with sponsorship and support from local businesses and organisations.

“We managed to overcome some difficulties, to provide a three-day event with a variety of attractions.”

The next Settle Festival event is “Take Three Chefs” at the Victoria Hall on November 25. Similar events in the past have been sell-outs. For more details, log on to settlefestival.co.uk
