Craven residents are being urged to return their voting registration forms – or risk missing out on the General Election.

Every household in the district should have received a form from Craven District Council asking for details of those eligible to vote.

Registration can be made by freephone, via the internet, by text or by post – and reminders will be sent to those who fail to respond.

Electoral registration officer Colin Iveson said so far there had been a good number of forms returned.

“Up to September 21, we’ve had responses to approximately 17,000, or 64 per cent, of the 26,500 forms sent out.

“Over the next few days reminders will be sent to households who have not yet let us have their information. We urge everyone to send in their return as quickly as possible. With a General Election in the offing, no one should risk losing their vote.”

The council has made it as easy as possible for people to register and urges those with no changes to be made to reply electronically.

Mr Iveson said: “For those who do not return forms by the end of October, canvassers will be knocking on doors. Electoral staff take very seriously the importance of having a register of electors that is as accurate as it possibly can be.”
