Local chefs are going head to head in the first competition of its kind in Craven – and it is certain to bring out the little child in all of them.

The contest is being held at the Listers Arms Hotel, in Malham, and will set the creative juices flowing when the chefs and local food suppliers each strive to make the best pumpkin lantern.

There is one category for the grown-ups and another for local children, and the contest is being held during the day on October 31 – appropriately, Halloween.

“It will be a fun event with the chance to win some great prizes, including an overnight stay in the North Lakes Hotel and Spa in Penrith, and a bottle of champagne,” said Terry Quinn, licensee at the Listers Arms.

“For the children there will be prizes of toys or sweets and on the day there will be all sorts of goodies to eat, from candy apples to hot pumpkin soup.

“Staff will be in fancy dress and it should be a really good atmosphere.”

Chefs from the Bull at Broughton, The Angel at Hetton, Malham Tarn Field Centre and the Buck Inn, in Malham, have already booked their places, as well as the Blue Pig Company, Paganum Meats, Shire Hotels and children from Malham, Airton and Hetton.
