A teenager is campaigning to save a bus service that provides the only means she has to see her boyfriend.

Catherine Walker also says the X59 bus between Skipton and Harrogate is essential if she is to complete her gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The 17-year-old Sutton-in-Craven resident is angry the service is to be reduced next month after a council subsidy was taken away.

She has spoken with fellow passengers and urged them to write letters of protest to save the X59. She has also launched a petition against the cutbacks.

The Craven College sports student said: “My boyfriend lives in Harrogate and we use the bus to see one another.

“I also use the X59 every week to get to the Scout group where I am still working on my Duke of Edinburgh Award.

“I can’t afford the alternative, which is to catch two trains,.”
