The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has launched its first walking marathon.
The Leeds to Skipton walking marathon will take place on Sunday, May 20, and will offer walkers a heart pumping full or half-distance marathon.
It will replace the Leeds to Skipton Canal Walk. The new event will give the choice of 13.1 miles or 26.2 miles and provides a perfect opportunity to see local wildlife and glimpse at Yorkshire’s industrial heritage.
Helen Whiteley, BHF event organiser, said: “We brought this event back last year due to popular demand and the response was overwhelming.
“This year, instead of starting at various points along the canal, we are offering a half or full marathon. Previously most people have preferred a longer walk to really get their heart pumping and enjoy a full day out. Walkers of any age or ability can come and get fit, have fun and save lives.
“We’re hoping to get more than 450 people to come this year so why not sign up today and help us continue the fight against heart disease?”
Entry is £20 for the full marathon (over-16s only). The half-marathon is £15 for adults and £10 for children. Register at bhf.org.uk/canal, call 0800 169 3672, or email northwestwales@bhf.org.uk for entry forms.
