Relatives of a Dales father-of-two who was killed in a road crash while on holiday in Wales have paid tribute to a “strong family man”.

Fifty-nine-year-old Karl Preuss, son of Karl Preuss and the late Mary Preuss, died in a three-vehicle collision on June 9.

Mr Preuss, 59 was riding his motorcycle on the A40, about two miles south of Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, at the time of the tragedy.

Dyfed-Powys police issued an appeal for witnesses following the collision which involved the motorbike, a car and a Transit camper-van.

Mr Preuss, who leaves a wife, son and daughter, was brought up in a farming environment firstly at Lower Pythorns in Wigglesworth and then later at Longtons farm in Tosside, alongside his younger brother Martin and his sister Anita. As he grew older he would often work on the farm.

He attended Tosside Village School and then went on to Settle High School. He studied for his HND at Leeds Polytechnic and went on to become a civil engineer, a career that lasted all his working life.

Although Mr Preuss moved away, friends and relatives still live in the area.

His work took him to Kent where he met his wife Ros. They were married in 1981 and went on to have two children, Simon and Emma. In 1991 they settled in Burbage, Wiltshire, where the family still live.

Sister Anita Saffery said: “Karl enjoyed walking and travelling and being out and about on his motorcycle.

“He was a strong family man and treasured the time that he spent with them. His wife and children will miss him greatly as will his father, his brother and his sister and his many long-standing friends.”
